VA Beach 2010

This year seemed to be the best of all the years we've been going to VA Beach as a family. The new house in Sandbridge had a pool which was a nice way to cool off in the evenings. We even had a nice evening out sans children.

Independence Day

Fun parade with the Thomases & Romans in Barcroft neighborhood of Arlington watching Kernel as Uncle Sam. Then a fun outing to see Lake Barcroft's fireworks with the Bennetts!

Cayla's 1st recital as a little ballerina. It was short and sweet just like her.

WO&D Trail ride May 15

Trail ride with a snow cone break in the middle followed by a trip to the lake. A busy day indeed.

Twilight Tattoo at Bluemont Park - rehersal

We went biking again on the WO&D trail this past weekend. While riding past one park we stumbled across the ARMY practicing for a show they were giving later in the evening. They let us bike right up to where they were and watch the rehearsal. It included a full band, silent drill team, a mock invasion with humvees, horses and armed troops. They were showing off weapons used from the revolutionary war through now. During the mock invasion they seriously drove the humvees to within 20 feet of our bikes. I asked if we were in the way and they said just sit still where we were and we'd be fine. The girls were waving at all the troops who were dressed in all sorts of different Army attire. We'll post pics soon on our blog site. Below is the advertising for the event they were practicing for.

The performance provides a fast-paced journey through Army history, from Revolutionary times to your Army's involvement in current military operations. Come and experience a glimpse into American history with The U.S. Army Blues, vocalists from The U.S. Army Band Downrange, The Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps, The Continental Color Guard, The Commander-in-Chief's Guard and The U.S. Army Drill Team.Bleacher seating is on a first-come, first-served basis, but there is plenty of space for chairs and blankets. Take metro to Ballston and walk or ride your bike down the Bluemont Junction Trail to the park.

Spring is here

...and the Pettyjohns are loving the weather! Chelsea has just recently started biking without training wheels really well. We decided to go on our first bike ride as a family with 2 girls on their own bikes and 1 still in a trailer. We didn't make it longer than a couple of hours but we had lots of fun. Snow cones and gazing at the pond full of turtles, frogs, & fish!
